BIO
Takara was born and raised in Adelaide, Australia and started recording covers on Garage Band as a hobby when she was just ten years old. At age 13 she began making beats in her bedroom, eventually forming a rap group with other local kids. In 2017, after a lifetime of not seeing herself represented in the Australian music industry, she packed up and took a huge leap of faith all the way to Chicago. By 2020, the now LA-based Takara had gained a cult-like following after reaching #1 on Australia's Triple J Unearthed with her song "Take Me Home" and earned further buzz in 2021 following a healthy release of singles including her hit "Off My Mind" featuring an international collaboration and landing her back at #3 on Triple J Unearthed. In 2022, she broadened her fan base with her viral song "Strawberry Cake." As an independent artist, Takara has managed to amass over 400 MILLION views on IG alone (@takarathekoala) while securing 500,000+ followers across platforms (IG,YT,TT, Spotify) since the release of her debut album ‘Kinda Messy’ in July 2022.
In 2023, Takara has returned with a unique, ear catching sound that blends bossa nova, neo soul and psychedelic funk. With her songs "Leonardo" and "Who Are You?" being featured in the A24 sleeper hit "Talk To Me" as well as her autobiographical Youtube TV Series "Takara TV" Takara, she has become a bright star within the independent music scene.
